Tom grew up with the sounds of The Cathedrals and the Gospel Singing Jubilee in his house every Sunday morning. He accepted Christ as his Savior when he attended a revival while in his teens. At  age 15, he learned to play the bass guitar by playing along with The Eagles on his 8 track tapes. Tom spent 8 years playing the tuba in his school band and through the years, he began to pick up more and more instruments. His list of "toys" includes the banjo, guitar, harmonica, mountain dulcimer, and auto harp.

Tom has been employed with Houston Lighting and Power-----a.k.a. Reliant Energy-----a.k.a. CenterPoint Energy since 1978.  In 1980, Tom married the love of his life, Joann, after "going together" for 4 years. They've been blessed with wonderful years mixed with some hard times, but one thing was always constant------ “He who promised is faithful.” (Hebrews 10:23b). Tom and Joann have two beautiful children, Shera and T.J., a pet Chihuahua, Sinbad, and a very playful grandkitten, Beaux.

The Richards stay very busy with family, dear friends, church activities, etc.  They love watching movies together, camping, and eating out any chance they get.  Tom loves to spend his spare time creating, recording and mixing music in The Red Room Studio. It is not unusual for the Lord to take a phrase spoken by someone, turn it into a song, and then whisper it to Tom in a still small voice.  It is then his job to get out of bed and get it all down on paper.
